Old Lady Leary

How-To: This song is sung as a Yelling Song!

Lyrics:
Late last night, while we were all in bed
Old Lady Leary lit a lantern in the shed
And when the cow kicked it over
She shook her head and said:
It’ll be a hot time in the old town tonight!
FIRE FIRE FIRE!

[Repeat]

  1. Our camp version:

Late last night, while we were all in bed, (lay head on hands like sleeping)
Mrs. O’Leary hung a lantern on the shed, (pretend to hang lantern)
The cow kicked it over (kick over the lantern)
and he winked his eye and said (wink your eye and point to it)
It’s gonna be a hot time in the old town tonight (fan yourself like you’re hot)
FIRE FIRE FIRE (flash all ten fingers in exclamation)
POUR ON WATER, POUR ON WATER (pretend to pour water on a fire)
SAVE MY CHILDREN, SAVE MY CHILDREN (put hands above head and wave them down to your body)
JUMP LADY JUMP (Jump in the air)
    HUH!!!

Then we treat this like a take-away song, and skip the words that you do the motion for… i.e.

Late last night, while we were all in ____
Mrs. O’Leary hung a _____ on the shed,
    The cow ______ it over
and he _____ his eye and said
    Its gonna be a ____________
    ____ _____ _____
    _____ _____ _____, _____ _____ _____
    ____ ___ _______, ____ __ _______
    ____ ____ ___
    HUH!

The kids absolutely love this cause you don’t say anything during by the end and you’re just doing all of the motions.

  2. you forgot that each time you repeat you say POUR ON WATER POUR ON WATER the 2nd time
SAVE MY CHILD SAVE MY CHILD the third
and JUMP LADY JUMP the last time
