Lyrics
Miss Suzy had a baby
She named him Tiny Tim
She put him in the bathtub
To see if he could swim
He drank up all the water
He ate up all the soap
He tried to eat the bathtub
But it just wouldn’t go
He floated up the river
He floated down the lake
And now Miss Suzy’s baby
Has got a bellyache
Miss Suzy called the doctor
The doctor call the nurse
The nurse called the lady
With the alligator purse
“Measles” said the doctor
“Mumps” said the nurse
“A virus” said the lady
With the alligator purse
“Penicillin” said the doctor
“Bed rest” said the nurse
“Pizza” said the lady
With the alligator purse
“He’ll live” said the doctor
“He’s alright” said the nurse
“I’m leaving” said the lady
With the alligator purse
I don’t want the doctor
I don’t want the nurse
I want the lady
With the alligator purse
I learned this as a handclapping game. Our version was:
Miss Lucy had a baby
She named him Tiny Tim
She put him in a bathtub
To see if he could swim
He drank up all the water
He ate up all the soap
He tried to eat the bathtub
But it wouldn’t go down his throat
Miss Lucy called the doctor
The doctor called the nurse
The nurse called the lady
With the alligator purse
“Measles!” said the doctor
“Mumps!” said the nurse
“Chicken pox!” said the lady
with the alligator purse.
The handclapping went as follows for each line, for a pair of players facing each other:
Hands at your shoulders w/ crossed arms “Miss”
Slap your thighs, arms uncrossed “Lu”
Clap once “cy”
Right hand to your partner’s right hand”had”
Clap once “a”
Left hand to your partner’s left hand “ba
Clap twice “by”
A variation we also did started the same way, but after the first line we replaced the first two motions with: each player’s backs of hands to the other player’s backs of hands, each player’s palms to the other player’s palms. Like this:
Hands at your shoulders w/ crossed arms “Miss”
Slap your thighs, arms uncrossed “Lu”
Clap once “cy”
Right hand to partner’s right hand”had”
Clap once “a”
Left hand to partner’s left hand “ba
Clap twice “by”
Backs of hands against partner’s backs of hands “She”
Palms against partner’s palms “named”
Clap once “him”
Right hand to partner’s right hand “Ti”
Clap once “ny”
Left hand to partner’s left hand “Tim”
Clap twice
backs of hands against partner’s backs of hands “She”
palms against partner’s palms “put”
clap once “him”
Right hand to partner’s right hand “in”
Clap once “the”
Left hand to partner’s left hand “bath”
Clap twice “tub”
backs of hands against partner’s backs of hands “To”
Palms against partner’s palms “see”
Clap once “if”
Right hand to partner’s right hand “he”
Clap once “could”
Left hand to partner’s left hand “swim”
Clap twice
(and so on…)
The challenge of course was to see how fast you could do it without messing up!
my version:
Miss Suzy had a baby
She named him Tiny Tim
She put him in the bathtub
To see if he could swim
He drank up all the water
He ate up all the soap
He tried to eat the bathtub
But it wouldn’t go down his throat
Miss Suzy called the doctor
Miss Suzy called the nurse
Miss Suzy called the lady
With the alligator purse
“Measles” said the doctor
“Mumps” said the nurse
“Pizza!” said the lady
With the alligator purse
